The goal of developing multiply was to extend the analog level of on-site shopping with a digital layer. Through the multitag, an NFC chip on the hanger, shoppers can use the functions of the associated app called multi. The size and fit of an item can be scanned directly on the hanger's surface, eliminating the need to search for small labels and tags inside the garment.
Clothing brands can also use this method to transparently display the production path of their clothing. The chip is attached to the respective item and held in position magnetically on the hanger. When the security tag is removed from the item at purchase for reuse, the same applies to the multitag. In this way, the system offers a sustainable alternative to conventional clothing labels, which customers usually discard immediately at home anyway.
Sustainability was also a priority in selecting a manufacturing method. Produced as a form-glued beech veneer, multiply is directly shaped from a multi-layered strip, allowing for complete utilization of a renewable raw material without material waste during production.
In the process of finding the form, the focus was on multifunctional use and presentation in retail. In addition to the classic hanging over both shoulders of a garment, multiply offers six other hanging options to showcase items such as trousers, headwear, or accessories in the store. The various hanging options are arranged so that combinations of different garments can be displayed on a single hanger.
